Designer of the Week

DESIGNER OF THE WEEK: CYNTHIA VINCENT

When any fashion conscious girl hears the words “Twelfth Street”, the fabulous line TWELFTH STREET BY CYNTHIA VINCENT” consisting of trendy dresses, and silk blouses immediately comes to mind. But where did the designer Cynthia Vincent come up with this? It was actually name of the street in which she grew up on in Los Angeles, California; a street where her first design ideas emerged.
So where has this designer been since she left her home of twelfth Street? Cynthia Vincent began her training at the Otis Art Institute of Parsons School of Design under the M.A.G.I.C scholarship where upon graduation she received the Silver Thimble Award. After leaving school Vincent worked at several different fashion companies such as London-based Jane Ong & Co., Ltd. where she quickly rose to the position of head designer, and then in the U.S. at Harriet Selwyn. Vincent began her first company, St. Vincent, in 1993 but in 2002, she merged St. Vincent with another company allowing for Twelfth Street by Cynthia Vicnent to be born in 2003. Since 20003, Twelfth Street has become a favorite to celebrities like Gwyneth Paltrow and Bilson. Just last week at Owl’s Lab, celebrity shopper Aubrey O’Day picked out a Deep V-Neck Twelfth Street by Cynthia Vincent blouse and happily posed while paparazzi shots were snapped away!

Trendsetter of the Week

TRENDSETTER OF THE WEEK: BEYONCE KNOWLES
What we love most about Beyonce, besides the fact that she celebrates "all the single ladies" is that whether it is day or night, she always makes fabulous fashion choices. Beyonce is one of the most versatile dressers and always looks awesome. Most celebs have paparazzi shots where they are caught unprepared and not exactly "camera-ready" in sweats, sans jewels, and hair disheveled; Beyonce on the other hand would never!

Even for a day of shopping, Beyonce was recently spotted walking the streets in torn denim, a burnout tank, fedora, and dangly earrings. She looked just as great as she does in her style hugging and leg flaunting dresses and cocktail wear.

When it comes to Beyonce's eveningwear she never neglects any aspect of her outfit. Notice at right how her white cinched waits dress didn't stop there. She paired it with gorgeous eye-grabbing earrings and embellished white pumps.

Beyonce has truly become an icon for the Owl's Lab girls; she demonstrates that each day it is important to wake up and want to look your best. You never know what may lay ahead and just as importantly... who you may see ;)

Designer of the Week

DESIGNER OF THE WEEK: GINA NIGRELLI

Gina’s interest in vintage fashion began while studying abroad in Harare, Zimbabwe, where she found herself sketching and collecting rare pieces. She formally began her fashion career as a merchandiser at Diesel in Las Vegas and then moved to Chicago where she earned a degree in fashion design at The International Academy of Design. She and her husband relocated to the Caribbean in 2006. It was on the island of St. Thomas where Gina created the JULES SMITH line, blending the influences of her life experiences, vintage fashion interests, and the innate jewelry culture she found herself residing in. In 2008, Gina’s appreciation for history, adventure and the fashion community led her to settle in Fort Greene, Brooklyn with her husband, where she could further expand the Jules Smith line in the home-base of New York City.

Gina Nigrelli’s JULES SMITH collection is reminiscent of influential runway looks of decades past, infused with modern day influences. Gina’s aesthetic marries her unique contemporary point-of-view with the classic statement-making trends of the 70’s and 80’s. She’s identified the free-spirited essence of the 70’s and the glamour and excess of the 80’s as her brand inspirations. JULES SMITH styles include bold cuffs, star motifs, engraved monochromatic animal print pieces, chain link silhouettes, vintage charms, rings and bangles.
