DESIGNER OF THE WEEK: CYNTHIA VINCENT

Gina’s interest in vintage fashion began while studying abroad in Harare, Zimbabwe, where she found herself sketching and collecting rare pieces. She formally began her fashion career as a merchandiser at Diesel in Las Vegas and then moved to Chicago where she earned a degree in fashion design at The International Academy of Design. She and her husband relocated to the Caribbean in 2006. It was on the island of St. Thomas where Gina created the JULES SMITH line, blending the influences of her life experiences, vintage fashion interests, and the innate jewelry culture she found herself residing in. In 2008, Gina’s appreciation for history, adventure and the fashion community led her to settle in Fort Greene, Brooklyn with her husband, where she could further expand the Jules Smith line in the home-base of New York City.
Gina Nigrelli’s JULES SMITH collection is reminiscent of influential runway looks of decades past, infused with modern day influences. Gina’s aesthetic marries her unique contemporary point-of-view with the classic statement-making trends of the 70’s and 80’s. She’s identified the free-spirited essence of the 70’s and the glamour and excess of the 80’s as her brand inspirations. JULES SMITH styles include bold cuffs, star motifs, engraved monochromatic animal print pieces, chain link silhouettes, vintage charms, rings and bangles.

DESIGNER OF THE WEEK: RORY EDELMAN

Designer of the Week: Ali FatourechiThank you to Ali Fatourechi for creating Genetic Denim- finally a denim line that flatters every body type! It is really one of the hottest jean lines in the market right now. He has created a denim line that combines global fashion trends and individuality of fit and wash to tailor denim to your body, all the while making it the softest denim in the industry.
Ali Fatourechi started in the denim business in 2000 by creating a grassroots denim line- one of the first in the business. He wanted to speak directly to the consumer and did this by creating Mobile Denim, a premium denim company that visited college campuses across the country, thus starting a trend! After meeting with over 20,000 consumers he really got to know the customer on an intimate basis and developed a clear vision for his brand.
With nostalgia for the bohemian yet basic denim styles of the 70’s Ali has created a denim line with life and timeless appeal. Genetic pays homage to centuries past while remaining modern with their edgy silhouettes. They have mastered the art of creating a line that accentuates assets rather than forcing everyone into the same mold. They have introduced some fabulous spring styles like deep purple, hot pink and distressed skinnies, and awesome boyfriend shorts that just hit the floor at the Lab!!
