I have a tendency to tear photos out of the weeklies when I see a celeb in a "look" I love. I know, it's a little high school of me, but I stick these photos away in my little fashion diary (bought for under $9 at Barnes and Noble) and use them for inspiration when I'm feeling icky about my fashion.
Anyway, I've started to realize that Vanessa Hudgens is my new style icon! Is that normal? I am years older than her (shhh don't tell) but I'm mesmorized by her ethnic pieces, effortless layering, and consistency with staying trendy. She does it on a young girls budget too, not that she needs to!
Layering is practically essential to becoming a style icon these days! Everyone who is noteworthy for their style is equally noted for heavy accessories, chunky knits, and outwear always included: Vanessa being no exception.
I think I have finally unlocked the key to effortless layering. You may layer away, but if you do not include ONE "KEY, OF-TREND" item in your look, you will just look as boho as the bum on the street. Note in these photos: the fringe bag by J. J. Winters (coming soon to the Lab), her motorcycle leather jacket, her grey kimono sweater (NOTE KIMONO'S ARE INSANELY HOT RIGHT NOW), her scarf, her beret and the slouchy boots were all "KEY, OF-TREND" pieces at the time she donned them. She doesn't wear them all at once, she keeps it simple by including just ONE.
I feel a sense of accomplishment today knowing that layering is actually really simple if you work by this one rule: you always need one key, of-trend piece!
Thank you Vanessa Hudgens!!
