DESIGNER OF THE WEEK: SASS&BIDE Sass & Bide is a fashion line based out of Australia that was founded by friends Sarah-Jane Clarke and Heidi Middleton in 1999. “Upon returning from the stalls of Portobello Road markets in London, the pair arrived in Sydney in 1999; filled with optimism, they aspired to start their own label. The primary choice of name 'folk' was unavailable and with less than 24 hours remaining until they lost their $100 deposit, the name "sass & bide" was coined by combining both of their nicknames.”* The label began by focusing on unique denim designs and then within two years expanded into two seasonal ready-to-wear collections. Sass & bide went on to be the first Australian designers to be invited to show their collection at New York Fashion Week and since then has become a favorite for its individuality and quirkiness. Today three lines exist: Sass&Bide, S&B, and Sass & Bide Denim.
